Madness & Confrontation recounts the story of Richard Gill conducting Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (based on the original play Day of Madness) who, with concertmaster Rachael Beesley and principal clarinettist Nicole van Bruggen, had the idea of establishing the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra. Along with a selection of duets and arias from Figaro, Mozart’s well-known clarinet concerto is performed by Nicole van Bruggen on basset clarinet – the original instrument for which the work was written. Beethoven's magnificent 5th Symphony ushered classical music into a new era and its infamous opening four-note motif confronts and enthrals audiences even to this day.

“Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra features an impressive line-up of Australian and international soloists possessing technical virtuosity and deep commitment to the music.”
Heather Leviston
