The Young Mannheim Symphonists youth orchestra program is a unique and exciting program designed to give students and emerging musicians the opportunity to discover for themselves the magic of approaching music with historical performance style. As the students are led through great musical masterpieces of the Classical and Romantic periods, and exposed to the knowledge and perception of professional musicians experienced in informed performance, they are inspired by how the music comes to life, and empowered to begin making informed musical decisions on their own.

This year, students auditioned to be part of the Young Mannheim Symphonists 2022 National Winter Academy to attend one of the three state-based Young Mannheim Symphonists Intensives. A final round of auditions for the 2022 VIC Intensive is still open and you read read about the 2022 QLD Intensive and NSW Intensive on their respective webpages.

Students are welcome to apply for both a State Intensive and/or the National Winter Academy, and students from Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, and the Northern and Australian Capital Territories are welcome to audition for a State Intensive of their choice as well as the National Winter Academy.

The 2023 Young Mannheim Symphonists courses have just been announced. Follow this link for more information.

“The collective knowledge and passion of so many world-class tutors… came to bear in a polished and mature culminating performance of Beethoven, Mozart and Mayer, which showed genuine commitment and communication from the players.

“My students loved the repertoire and the new perspectives they gained through their freshly acquired knowledge. They enjoyed gaining an insight into the world of professional playing, and using their whole body as an instrument to connect with the music and the ensemble.”

“I can not recommend the Young Mannheim Symphonists program more highly for those young musicians who are looking for the "what next?" in their musical journeys. Working with some of the world's best performers and educators in Historically Informed Performance on some of the greatest repertoire ever written is an opportunity no serious musician should miss out on!”
