We are thrilled to present the Young Mannheim Symphonists for the third time in Victoria in 2021, having collaborated with the Melbourne Youth Orchestras Summer School programs in the past. We are excited to continue providing young Victorian musicians with the opportunity to be part of our unique youth orchestra program.

At the 2021 VIC Intensive, successful applicants spend four days participating in workshops, tutorials and orchestral rehearsals at Camberwell Grammar School in Melbourne. The VIC Intensive culminates in a public concert in which the Young Mannheim Symphonists perform the repertoire they have prepared throughout the week.

In September 2021, the Young Mannheim Symphonists, directed by Rachael Beesley and Nicole van Bruggen, will plunge into masterpieces by the Viennese masters. The students will be mentored by tutors some of whom will rehearse and perform alongside them in the orchestra. The Young Mannheim Symphonists directors and tutors are principal musicians of the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra - professional musicians who specialise in historically informed performance on period instruments. Their knowledge of musical styles, articulations, and embellishments comes from years of experience performing; reading treatises and studying scores; experimenting with instruments and interpretations; and sharing with their peers and their students. They are passionate about understanding our musical heritage in the context in which it was created, and they are even more passionate about inspiring and enlightening others.

This program was outstanding as it challenged my current understanding of Classical and Romantic music.

[Young Mannheim Symphonists has] inspired me to the point at which I now want to follow and explore HIP in my university courses and hopefully in my career. The experience of the whole rehearsal process in high-level orchestras and the extra detail involved in historically informed performance was invaluable to me.
